"Wels wants to ban screaming children vom playgrounds. "

Puls24.at

The coffee machine beeps and steams once more from the nozzles and the cappuccino is ready. With the warm coffee in your hand, you take a quick breath before the children wake up. The new edition of the monthly Welser Zeitung is already on the table. The title page is emblazoned with the words: "We've done it again - Wels has once again been voted the world's most livable city! On the picture positioned below, our community leader proudly shows himself and is quoted: "We owe the award to our liberal values." For a long time now, our small town has overtaken numerous metropolises and is at the top of the ranking! We are a homogeneous society where everyone understands each other - at least everyone speaks the same language.

We owe it all to our house rules, which were introduced a few years ago and by which we have properly dressed up. At first we received ridicule for it and were reprimanded for its absurdity. But now it is having an effect and we are taking credit for being good citizens.

We all function much better since we have subordinated ourselves to these rules and behave as we are told from above. There are no more conflicts and in general our city seems much more harmonious.

In the beginning, some still tried to rebel against the new guidelines. However, these quickly became mute, perhaps because of the immense fines or because they realized that the rules show the right way! In the meantime, even the horrendous penalties are no longer necessary - we all no longer think about disobeying the house rules!

My wristband vibrates - very quietly, without disturbing anyone. The alarm clock signaling me: Time to wake up the kids. We have planned to go to the playground today. Once in the kids' room, a quick tap on the shoulder is all it takes for the two of them to get up, head to the bathroom, get dressed and get ready for the day. This obedience we have been trained to have makes life so easy in so many ways.

After they have eaten their breakfast, we head off to one of the playgrounds in town. How beautiful, quiet and clean it is here in Wels is really wonderful and surprising every time. We wander along the street like this and pass an ingenious waste separation system before turning off to the playground. A small queue has formed at the entrance door. Here, of course, we first have to check whether we meet the criteria to enter. So we wait our turn. At the entrance, we are checked on our German language skills, which are necessary to visit public facilities. These successfully confirmed, we enter the playground, which is sealed off from the outside, so that the residents* are not bothered by the noise that arises when playing. A few years ago, this precaution may not have been necessary, but now our children play all by themselves without shouting or otherwise disturbing. We can be glad that discipline and order prevail here, that Wels is the most livable city in the world.
